Associated Press – Washington D.C. and New York
Technical Broadcast, IP/IT and Audio Visual Design for Washington D.C.
The Washington Bureau and the Broadcast News Center — home to the Broadcast Wires, the Radio Network, Online Video, Multimedia, Graphics Bank, Mid–Atlantic News, APFN, and the Americas operations of AP Television and Global Media Services had two operations – just two blocks apart for more than three decades. One was for AP’s Washington News Bureau and the other for the Broadcast News Center. In 2007 AP consolidated the two by moving to a new downtown facility.
Human Circuit took on the task of combining all operations into one location with the layout collaboratively designed to maximize and exploit editorial, production and administrative synergies. The new location is at the corner of 13th & L Streets in the northwest quadrant of Washington D.C.
For this project, Human Circuit designed solutions and integrated the equipment for the facility’s technical core, master control room, TV studios, studio control rooms, client rooms, central news desk (CND), newsroom, chroma key studios, radio studios, and conference rooms. The relocation allowed AP to bring multiple departments, including international video, radio, domestic video, online video, multimedia, photography, broadcast graphics and print journalism together.
In a matter of months, Human Circuit completed this project designed to help streamline the process for AP’s clients and staff by providing them with a modern and efficient environment to capture, produce, assign and distribute accurate and timely news. Hundreds of miles of data cable, four miles of electrical cable, three miles of conduit and more than a mile of mechanical piping now link the four-floor, 82,000 sq-ft facility.

Associated Press Television Network – New York City
APTN New York Operations Consolidation
In the spring of 2004, Associated Press consolidated all the New York City master control operations into one facility.
Human Circuit designed, engineered and integrated this branch and added an upgrade from analog to standard definition digital video. The scope of this project included a production studio and control room, master control operations, five edit bays, a digital technical core and multimedia production services.
The unique aspect of this project was that audio processed through central operations was embedded in the SDI video signal.
