Turning an Abandoned Garage and Holding Cell into a Broadcast Production Studio

 The City of Rockville’s Rockville 11 needed to expand its operation and space was not available. However, on the lower level of City Hall an abandoned garage and holding cell lay in wait.  Not an ideal location for a two-camera production studio and a control room but Human Circuit got to work and made it happen.

Human Circuit designed and built the new studio and control room to be consistent with Rockville 11’s existing broadcast operation and tie-lines connect the new studio to the Council Chamber broadcast systems two floors up.

Human Circuit designed the two-camera studio to make the most of the limited floor space and low ceiling. A custom lighting grid was cut to fit illuminating a multi-position talent desk and set. The set features three large LCD monitors that display background graphics and video clips. The studio is equipped with a talent monitor, intercom and IFB system, wireless and wired microphones,  audio fold-back system, BSPs for camera and microphone connections.

The control room has a production console for three operators. The console supports the production switcher, graphics system, prompter system and audio board. The switcher’s built-in multi-viewer displays all sources including cameras, clip playback and graphics along with preview and program video.

The product compliment and system designed for Rockville 11 and the City of Rockville is a core design that works well for all state, municipal and county government broadcast operations.
